Exploring the Chontacoatlan Underground River

Travel along the Chontacoatlán Underground River and live an extraordinary experience that you must experience at least once in your life. Enter a natural tunnel carved by a riverbed inside a mountain, where you will discover impressive formations and structures created by the force of the water inside the grotto. This unique adventure is ideal for canyoning and nature lovers.
Full duration of the experience: 12-13 hours (3 hours on the way + 6-7 hours on the tour + 3 hours on the way back).

Requirements:
- Age range 14-45 years
- Acceptable physical condition for a 12km walk
- Do not fear the dark
- Not being afraid of enclosed places (claustrophobia)
- Do not be afraid of water
What to bring:
- Hiking boots or good running shoes
- Hike pants
- T-shirt
- Cap, hat or buff
It is recommended to bring:
- Walking snacks
- A liter and a half of water or 1 liter of water and a 600ml gatorade or similar
- Medium backpack to carry lunch and water
The entire tour is inside a grotto under the earth. If you have a fear of water, darkness, or claustrophobia, ask for details of the activity to see if it's right for you. It is a route that will challenge you physically and mentally, as it is a wet route almost entirely. You'll have to muddy up, swim, climb, descend, and face total darkness at times. It is an adventure not suitable for those who like comfort, but an adventure challenge for beginners and people with knowledge. Perfect for those who like camping, nature and adrenaline.
Itinerary
- 6:00 am: Departure from Mexico City
- 8:30 am: Start of tour
- 4:00 pm: End of the activity
- 7:00 pm: Return to Mexico City
