Visit the Biblioteca de México, a viceregal building that in the 20th century became a library and has housed the 5 most relevant personal libraries in the country for just over 10 years. Each library has an architectural project and a unique plastic work. Do not miss this gem that not many know about.

Through this visit, you will learn about the history of the building that houses the second most important library in Mexico, from the viceregal era to the present day. You will get to know the characters who marked the site, the relevant events in the chronicles of the city, and the treasures it contains.

What is included?

  • Guided tour of the site

Additional Information

  • Do not confuse it with the Biblioteca de México in Buenavista by architect Kalach. If you go by car, look for parking nearby; the Ciudadela market no longer allows parking.
  • As it is a library, you can usually speak, but remember the purpose of the space: do not speak loudly or make noise, etc.

Itinerary

  1. Meeting point at the Morelos monument in Plaza de la Ciudadela on the side of Emilio Dondé street.
  2. Start the tour with the Decena Trágica and everything that happened during the Revolution at that place.
  3. We enter the library to see this great building, with plastic works by contemporary artists.
  4. Then we will visit the Garden of Aromas, a project by Jerónimo Hagerman.
  5. Finally, we will visit the 5 personal libraries of José Luis Martínez, Alí Chumacero, Carlos Monsiváis, etc.

Why attend?

Few guides offer this experience; it is a hidden gem. Everyone who goes on the tour is pleasantly surprised. Moreover, it is the new neighborhood; ask us for recommendations for new restaurants. You can also complete your visit with the Ciudadela market and a good restaurant.
